Dr Amita Singh

'Nothing will happen to your child'
Then in year 2000, Daksh developed loss of appetite accompanied with fever, weight loss and enlarged lymph nodes. The doctor treated him with antibiotics, but nothing worked. It was a Monday when we took him to Sir Ganga Ram hospital to get him examined by a senior specialist there. In my heart of hearts, I feared the worst. Daksh's symptoms were pointing towards a cancer process. I clutched at Guruji's picture while walking into the doctor's cabin. I was praying for my son's good health and repeatedly asking Guruji for His blessing. I knew that it was in His power to correct the ailment in a split second. The cabin filled with His fragrance. I had heard in the past that if you remember Guruji truly, He always comes to your rescue. The rosy scent signified His presence.

The doctor examined Daksh and was very upset and looked disappointingly at me. He had found both the spleen and liver enlarged, clearly pointing towards malignancy.

The doctor made me feel the enlarged organs and asked for an ultrasound of the abdomen immediately to assess the extent of involvement. I was near to tears fervently praying to Guruji to take care of this problem. I had heard of so many miracles and so I was convinced that He could cure my son. Throughout the 40-minute drive to the radiologist, Guruji's fragrance reached out to us reassuringly.

While the ultrasound was being conducted, my son and I could feel His presence as His fragrance lingered around us. With Guruji's blessings, the ultrasound was normal. The entire diagnosis changed, even the liver and spleen were found to be normal in size. Guruji had listened to our prayers and given a new lease of life to our child.

In the evening we reached Guruji's place, hoping to talk to Him about the day's events. We were pleasantly surprised as we entered the hall, for He called out with a mischievous smile on His lips: "So? What was the diagnosis?" I was overwhelmed: He already knew what had happened during the day and yet had given us an opportunity to satisfy our curiosity.

I told Him that the doctors were suspecting cancer. He kept quiet. I was near to tears when He said, "Don't worry; nothing will happen to your child." I inquired if I needed to conduct the various tests which were due. He answered that as I was a doctor I would not understand and I could go ahead as I wished to. Somewhere my logical mind would not let things rest with Him, and so I got a gamut of investigations conducted on my son. Believe it or not, each one came out normal.

Finally, a biopsy was conducted on the lymph nodes which, by now, had started joining (or matting). The lymph node which was removed showed changes to the naked eye. I was confused. How could this be? Guruji had said that all would be fine, but then why this? All kinds of thoughts came to my mind. I was desperate.

That evening I was asked to come to His sangat once a week only. I wondered why He had done this. Next week, the biopsy results came and they were reported to be normal. The surgeon could not believe it; he said it was a miracle. We, of course, knew who had performed it. Guruji had blessed my son, so this had to be.

A few weeks later, Guruji one day just said: "Jaa tere munde nu theek kar ditta (I have cured your son)." From that day, the fever disappeared, his appetite became better, the lymph node started reducing in size and the matting disappeared. Thanks to Guruji, Daksh became all right. No medication whatsoever was given to him, as no conclusive diagnosis about his condition could ever be made.

With Guruji every moment is a miracle and worth living for. He holds your hand and guides you gently. He carries your burden on Himself without letting you know. He clears the path ahead and makes it soft and pleasant. He shields you from all evil, all wrong and holds you close to His bosom like a mother would, to protect her child. And when you go wrong He gently prods you back to the right path. He listens to you, every breath that you take, and gives you the faith to believe in the goodness of God - and that is Him. Unassumingly, He watches over you and all other lives that even fleetingly touch you, blessing each one all the way. He has no airs, no ego, He makes no demands. He is forever giving. He is unfathomable. Amongst the thousands that throng for His darshan, not a single one goes unblessed. Each one of us feels that He is with him only. He shows the correct way of conducting one's duties in this world. He suffers silently when we go astray and also when He takes the burden of our pain on Himself. Believe me: There is no one like Him, never has been and never ever will be.

My mother was hospitalized some years ago, and the doctors felt that her haemoglobin was very low and she would need a transfusion. We rushed to Guruji and shared our worries with Him. He smiled and blessed her. The very next day, she was back home with all her tests normal.

Promila Mehta

JAI GURUJI KI============With a blessing, her kidneys grew in size

Promila Mehta, July 2007
After she had an operation in a renowned hospital in New Delhi, Mrs Promila Mehta found herself battling for life. Mrs Mehta had been suffering from high blood pressure since 1995. She had to undergo a hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, in July 2000. The doctors operated on her but neglected the blood pressure factor, as there was no coordination between her physician and gynaecologist. Post-surgery her blood pressure climbed to 180mmHg/120mmHg and remained at this peak for two weeks.

Her kidneys were damaged - irreparably so, as it turned out. Her cretanine level went beyond 1.8, the high-end value for a healthy individual. Promila had entered hospital hoping she would get cured, but came out with a bigger threat to her life. She developed Chronic Renal Failure, which meant both her kidneys, the primary blood filters of the body, were malfunctioning.

Promila did the round of doctors. She was treated in Bangalore, at AIIMS in New Delhi and at Kailash Hospital in Noida. She also went through ayurvedic, homeopathic, and acupuncture therapies. All doctors said that a kidney transplant was the only solution.

Five years after her problems had become acute, she came to know of Guruji through a colleague. It was April 2005, but she reached Guruji's only on July 21, 2005. He must have willed her to come on that particular day for it was Guru Purnima day.

Guruji asked her to bring a copper tumbler, which He blessed. She drank water from it every morning. She was able to visit Guruji for all of the four sangat days (Thursday to Sunday) from July 2005 to December 2005. As soon as she started drinking the holy water and bathing with it, she noticed that her skin, which looked aged, especially around the neck, began to improve.

One day, she was sitting next to Guruji. She told him that there was no blood in her body and that she felt miserable all the while. Guruji just smiled at her and she kept quite.

On December 13, she was suddenly woken up at 5 in the morning. Her nose felt sticky. She did not switch on the light, but wiped her nose with her nightgown. She soon realized that water was still flowing from her nose. She switched on the light. To her surprise - her nose was bleeding, and freely. One handkerchief was soon drenched in blood. She woke up her son, and mother and child rushed to Kailash Hospital, Noida. The doctors tried to control the blood flow, but were unsuccessful. They then admitted her.

Promila called up her husband, who was in Bangalore. It was 6:30 in the morning and she asked him to come to Delhi immediately. She had Guruji's photograph with her all the time she was in hospital. It was found that the blood flow was related to the malfunctioning of the kidneys. To control the problem, Mrs Mehta had dialysis three times in four consecutive days. Three bottles of blood and two units of plasma were also transfused into her blood stream. The colour of her skin turned red - as she had wished for a few days ago while sitting before Guruji - from pale yellow. If you ask Guruji for a thing and if it is for your good, says Mrs Promila, you will get it.

The devotee came out of hospital in a week and could come to Guruji for His blessings again. He told her that both her kidneys were okay now; and she had been blessed with a new life.

She continued coming to Guruji and having the langar, a very important part of Guruji's blessings. Guruji's langar has tasty vegetables, chutneys, pickles and sweets. All doctors prohibit such a diet, but Mrs Promila found that the food is easily digested and the whole of the next week passes comfortably.

In February of 2006, she again fell sick and had to go through dialysis three times in Kailash Hospital. She managed to get an appointment with the Head of the Department of Nephrology in AIIMS. He suggested an ultrasound scan, revealing that if her ultrasound report was similar to the one obtained in August 2003, they will pursue conservative treatment. Otherwise, if the kidneys had shortened further, then a kidney transplant would become essential. Mrs Mehta got her ultrasound done from a local lab on a Saturday. The report showed both the kidneys had become extremely small.

She came to Guruji and requested Him to do something, even though according to the doctor the only solution was a kidney transplant. Guruji again blessed her.

Promila got her ultrasound done again the next Monday from the lab which had done it in August 2003 as well. To her surprise, the size of the kidneys had increased; they were the same size as the August 2003 ultrasound showed. Hence no transplant was required.

Guruji also cured other patients. While she was in hospital, Guruji's devotee also gave out His photographs to other patients. They got cured and were released from hospital.

After Mrs Promila was cured, Guruji asked her to come to Him only once a week. Coming to Guruji everyday had been wonderful, but Guruji wanted new people to be blessed. But, seeing Him even once a week fulfills her. She says a single langar meal is sufficient to bolster her for the rest of the week and she gets chargedu thanks to that one brief visit.

Jai Guruji ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒน
Whenever you feel yourself surrounded by any problem or trouble , or there is something which is bothering you and giving stress.. Just remind yourself that Guruji is always with you and he will never fail you and you can count upon him. Say and feel these words to yourself that "Guruji is here right with me , helping me and protecting me " and then take a deep breathe and recite the power Mantra Jaap
Om Namah Shivaye, Shivji sada sahaye
Om Namah Shivaye, Guruji sada sahaye.. And then see how quickly you feel good, calm and positive.

Shukrana Guruji for always Holding my Hand

Jai Guruji..
We often let down by the most trusted people and loved by the most unexpected ones. Some make us cry for things that we haven't done , while others ignore our faults and see our Smile . Some leaves us when we need them the most , while some stay with us even ask them to leave . The world is a mixture of people . We just need to know which hand to shake and which hand to Hold ! After all that's Life . Learning to Hold on and Learning to . LET GO....
Shukrana Guruji for always Holding my Hand .
Love u Guruji.. — feeling blissful.

SATSANG FROM THE BOOK MY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY BY JYOTIKA MEHTA Aunty....

Whlie reading this satsang...u will get tears in ur eyes....must read....

When her baby was 5 months old...she went to India and visited Guruji again to seek his blessings for her and her baby.....She visited Guruji as many times as possible and everytime he would say the same thing.... "Tu kad jaana hai wapis?".... and each time she replied.." Guruji 12th April nu." Then Guruji insisted that she should get her ticket changed and change the date for after 13th April.... as he really wanted her to attend the Baisakhi function......At that time She didn't know what to do because her husband wasn't there with her at the stay for the Baisakhi function....
When she was siting with the rest of the sangat in bade mandir....to do pranam to Guruji and get his darshan....Guruji called her up to him.... even though, normally, sangat wasn't allowed to go up to him during functions at Bade Mandir....She was overwhelmed....then Guruji told her that night,..." Changa kita ruk gayi.... Bhala ho gaya tera.... Hor blessings mil gayinyan.".... In that moment she realised that he had made her stay to bestow upon her some special blessings that he had to give me on that particular occasion.....
So, as Guruji wanted.... her flight tickets got changed on their own....
She knew that this was Guruji's doing...... He wanted her to stay till after Baisakhi and he had made it happen....
So, she attended the Baisakhi function.... It was really grand.... Hans Raj Hans had performed that night and she had danced along with many others.....After that she went to visit him again 2 more times...before her flight on the 17th of April.....On her last visit,.... Guruji knew something that she didn't..... that was going to be her last meeting with him......
Guruji made her stay till the end that night as usual. ....Then he ordered for another round of halwa.... and made her eat another serving of halwa..... . Later, when Guruji gave her his aagya to leave,... he patted me on her head and gave her his hand to hold....She was overwhelmed with joy as Guruji himself was holding out his hand to her..... Because She worshipped Guruji as God incarnate....loves him truelly....
Then she took his outstretched hand and kissed it.... and touched it to her forehead and eyes.... Then she bowed her head at his feet... with great reverence... for an extra long time, as her soul was aware of the significance of that pivotal moment....Then Guruji said something totally unexpected...... He said," All the best. Hun Australia milangey"..... She couldn't understand what he meant and asked him,...." Guruji tussi Australia aa rahe ho?"..... thinking that maybe he was planning to visit Australia..... But he did not explain nd he just gave her a smile....
That was her last meeting with him....nd she left to Australia....
On 31st May 2007.... when she received the news that he had left his physical body and gone into Mahasamadhi,.... She was devastated.... she felt so distraught and was inconsolable for months...... It felt.... as if, she had lost everything and nothing would ever be the same again..... On her next visit to India...., she went to Bade Mandir to pay her respect at his samadhi and cried her heart out.... wailing like a child..... Then, through his healing grace.... Guruji helped her to remember his final promise to her..... she drew some comfort and solace from that..... But the way that Guruji fulfilled that promise.... was beyond her greatest expectations and even beyond the scope of her imagination.....

JAI GURUJI...

Lalita

Jai Guruji

With Guruji's hukam, I am blessed to share satsang of our maid, Lalita.

Satsang 1 -
Lalita came to us very tensed saying her son who is 9 yrs old, very ill. Doctors have given expensive medicines and tests and the reports suggests he has jaundice. I would also like to mention, Lalita is a single parent and a very hard working lady. Both her children are studying in school and she looks after their every need like a flourished father.

Seeing her so tensed, mom makes her wear Guruji's locket. She sends one for her son too. I don't know how Guruji designs to cure his Sangat, we were to go to Bade Mandir and the car had space of 2 people. We thought of taking Lalita and her son with us. Lalita bunked her other homes and came along for Darshan. His son had Guruji's divine Langar Parshad in Bade Mandir. While we were still at the exit gate, someone from Sangat hands him Guruji's small Swaroop. And we told him, now he needs not to worry, Guruji has blessed him by calling him to his darbaar today.

Next day, Lalita comes and tells the doc says the boy is fine and has no jaundice. Her son felt better and was very happy when he was returning that day from Mandir. Jai Guruji!!

Satsang 2-
Lalita works selflessly whenever we have Satsang of Guruji at our place. She would come early, stay late, serve the Sangat and without any expectations from us or Guruji.
Last time she was ill, she had blocked nose, bad throat and fever. Still continued with the sewa and helped us setting up the Darbaar.

Next day when she came to work, she told us she felt absolutely fine. No fever and with same energy. Who did that ? Needless to guess, GURUJI!

Satsang 3-
For a person like Lalita who is singlehandedly bringing up two children, running her home even a small amount of saving means a big deal. It was one morning when she came running to us and told that her brother had taken some money from her to buy a plot in her name. Now he has constructed two floors and refuses to give her share in the floor. We again asked her to pray to Guruji and have faith. If Guruji wants, he will definitely turn the things around. This is 2 -3 month old story.

Today when she came to work, she told that her same brother came to her yesterday and begged for her forgiveness. He asked her to come and stay in her floor which is her!!
And now she is shifting to stay in her own house soon. Who did that ? :)

While I am writing this Satsang sitting in Guruji's mandir at home, the track on system is "Bigdi mere taqdir ko, tune banana hain Guruji, dar chord ke tera kahin aur na janna hain"

Har ek di nerde hoke sunda, kis tarah na gavaan gun main aapne garib niwaaj de!! Jo aapni bhagat di aap laaj rakhde ne.

Dhan Dhan Guruji. Dhan kita Guruji aapni sangat bana ke. Sanu aapne warga SATGURU bakshan lai.

Jai Guruji/ bhul chuk maaf.

"Guruji had ordered us not to take home flowers given by someone else to him. We got a duty to immerse them in any river on the way back home from Punjab to Delhi."

"Salwar kameez sabto changi dress hondi hai." – Guruji
"Salwar kameez is the most appropriate dress for women, better than a saree."

"Phave sab de kol pura ghar hai par rehna ek bedroom vich hai. Rehen vaste ghar da ek kamra kam anda hai." – Guruji
"One has a house but actually uses a bedroom to live in."

Regarding the copper vessel for the patient who cannot reach the Bade Mandir.
"Je meri photo nal tambe da lota chuva deyo ta o bless ho gaya. Kadi v detergent de nal nahi dhona. Ratti nimbu ya rakh de nal dho ke bhar kerakho, swere pahla pe lo", Guruji said. "Touch my photo to a copper vessel and it is blessed. Never use detergent to clean it. Only use lemon or ash. Fill it up at night after cleaning and drink first thing in the morning."

"Ay kalyug hai, aide vich rab jaldi mil janda ve. Putha nahin latakna painda." – Guruji
"Today in Kalyug, God is easily achievable, you do not have to hang upside down from trees and do penance, just pray and thank Him."

A sweet fragrance emitted from his being. He told me it was years of penance.... a Heaven within called "Sachkhand".

There was nothing as new or old sangat in His presence. He would tell us not to count the years of our association with Him, as He said only He knew how many births we were associated with Him for. He could see the past, present and the future. Nothing was hidden from Him. He could tell what one had eaten for any meal just to show that He knew it all.

"Mere naal direct connection jodo."– Guruji
"Have a direct connection with me. I first bless those who guide you to me, after that the journey is yours."

"Gulab vich v kanda honda hai."– Guruji
"If something good has something negative attached to it, take it in your stride, accept, as nothing is perfect."

"Samay kissi ka intezar nahi karta." – Guruji
"Time waits for nobody."

"Paath kidre v kar sakde ho, ghar de kisi v kamre vich rab nu yaad kar sakde ho, toilet vich v." – Guruji.
"You can pray and remember God anywhere, and in any room of your house, even in the toilet."

"Samay nu hamesha vadha ke dasde ne. Pone 9 na kavo, 8 .45 (ath pantali) kavo." – Guruji
"Time should always be increased, not decreased and told. Don't say a quarter to 9, say eight forty five (8.45) instead."

"Loki enna faltu kharcha karde ne vyah utte. Vyah simple hone chahide ne. Asal ceremony kinni jaldi ho jandi hai." – Guruji
"People spend extravagantly on weddings, it should be kept simple. The actual ceremony doesn't take much time."

Walking down a lane with Guruji one day I requested him to walk on pavement but he continued walking on the road. He increased his speed when we approached a T point, a motor cyclist came with great speed on the main road, his bike somersaulted and whirled in the air quite high and went crashing on the road with great ferocity. I screamed,"Wahe Guru!" left on the main road and continued walking saying, "Bach gaya hai. Udi maa di duavan ne unu bacha litta hai." He is saved due to his mother's earlier prayers.

A Guru never takes back His blessings. His ways are gracious and wondrous. We are not to equate His blessings with monetary gain or loss.

Jai Guruji Maharaj

BN Andley

A new life for my special child
B. N. Andley, January 2012
I have read and heard of Guruji helping people in difficult times. But all of these satsangs happened to be of those devotees who had met Guruji in His physical form.

I have never met Guruji in person, yet it is my firm conviction that He is omnipresent and keeps constant watch on his bhaktas and helps them sail through any problem-provided the devotee has surrendered to Him totally.

My satsang illustrates this. In October, 2010 my younger son, who has Down syndrome, fell prey to dengue. It was Dussehra day when his blood report revealed that his platelet count had nosedived to 32,000 platelets per microlitre against the normal range of 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh per microlitre. He was admitted to Max Hospital, Saket. He was immediately shifted to the ICU when he passed a lot of blood through the stool. His condition kept deteriorating.

On the third day, doctors called us at 3 in the night to inform us that he was bleeding internally and that his organs-the liver and kidney-had begun failing. Liver failure had affected his brain; he had stopped recognizing people and was not making eye contact. He was put on a ventilator. Doctors believed the only chance was to go for a liver transplant-yet none of our family members' blood groups matched our son's. Doctors lost all hope and so did we. There was no chance of survival. It was a matter of three to four hours.

Fortune brought a friend of my elder son to the hospital. He suggested to my elder son that he go to Guruji's Bade Mandir. We had never heard about Guruji, and my wife told my son that he should spend whatever short time was left with his brother. She suggested that my elder son could go to the ashram the next day. My son's friend, however, insisted that we needed to go to the Mandir that day itself: What would we do the next day?

Finally, my wife allowed our son to leave. It was a Wednesday. My son and his friend had darshan of the samadhi, but the rest of the Mandir was closed off for repair and renovation. They went to the court yard at the back and found the gardener. He told them there was nobody else at the Mandir. My son meanwhile wanted to at the very least see Guruji's photo, as he had never seen Him before. He began weeping uncontrollably.

As if on cue, a lady devotee came out and asked about his plight. She learnt of our grave trouble and assured my eldest son that everything would be fine. She had a Mandir room opened, where my son bowed in front of Guruji's photograph. She gave the friends laddoo and samosa prasad along with a bottle of amrit (water) and directed my son to give the prasad to the patient. That was not feasible, because my son was on a ventilator. The devotee then gave my son a photograph of Guruji and asked that it be kept under the patient's pillow. She also managed to bring a flower from Guruji's samadhi.

Returning from the Mandir, my son felt enormous strength and very positive energy. He came back to hospital, explained everything and also expressed his certainty that his brother would be saved. We kept Guruji's photograph under my son's pillow. Right away my eldest son felt that Guruji had taken over all our problems and his brother would be fine. He felt as if Guruji was saying, now I have come and nothing untoward will happen.

The next morning my son showed signs of improvement. A day later he had recovered his senses. The doctors were surprised and said it was a miracle, as they had not seen anyone pull through from a similar situation. By the third day, my son had started taking a normal diet. He is now hale and hearty and regularly goes to the ashram with us.

Such miracles can only happen with Guruji's kripa. Guruji's grace flowed towards us even though the Mandir was closed in the form of every possible means available at the Mandir-the flowers, prasad, and Guruji's photograph. That is because Guruji is always there and knows the problems and state of mind of those coming to His Mandir. Guruji Maharaj can appear in any form, or send His devotees to help those in trouble.

In spite of his best efforts, my son could not meet the lady devotee who had helped us that day. However, in March 2011, he saw her and we all met her. She was Dutta aunty from Patparganj. She herself had been wondering all those months about the child whose brother had come weeping to the Mandir. And here we were all safe!

Guruji listens to all our prayers and also provides the best remedies. The only thing we have to do is surrender totally with full faith.

S K Behl

ai guruji ki--Operation in dream rids wife of heart ailment
S K Behl, July 2007เคนिंเคฆी
I along with my family had the privilege of meeting Respected Guruji in 1997-98. It was at the behest of one of my friends who had been highly impressed with the blessings showered upon him by Guruji.

My wife Neeta Behl had been suffering from heart problems during this period. I had earlier taken her to the family doctor (a senior physician) who, after having examined her, advised certain tests including an ECG and TMT.

The ECG results were found to be unsatisfactory. The TMT involved walking on a platform that moved with variable speed. She could not sustain it even for a minute, as her blood pressure increased beyond 2000 mmHG abruptly. The test had to be abandoned at that stage as per the advice of doctors. On my reporting this to the family doctor, a fresh prescription was given for undergoing the Stress Thallium Test. I fixed an appointment at the Sita Ram Bhartia Hospital in Qutab Institutional Area.

Before the stress test could be performed, we met Guruji and told Him about my wife's health problems.

Guruji, after listening to us with great patience, caught hold of my wife's left hand, gave it a jerk and advised her to apply 17 betel leaves on the left portion of the chest for three days continuously. My wife felt as if her hand had been dislocated. However, the shooting pain, which she used to feel most of the time, started subsiding even as we were sitting with the sangat at Guruji's place in Empire Estate.

My wife took Guruji's advice and applied the betel leaves. The same night she dreamt that Guruji had operated on her heart and got rid of her problem. She told me early in the morning about the dream. She said she had perspired and had awakened after having been operated upon for the heart problem. It was an amazing experience. When we met Guruji during the evening hours of the same day, to our astonishment He referred to the dream, saying, "Kalyan ho gaya" (You have been blessed.)

However, we had not informed Guruji about the Thallium test for which an appointment had been fixed at the Sita Ram Bhartia Hospital. When my wife was taken to that hospital for this test, an initial ECG was found to be satisfactory. Later, she was made to undergo a TMT test. The doctors performing the TMT test were surprised to see that the blood pressure remained absolutely normal even after she walked briskly for nine minutes on the platform. They rather curiously asked me what problem she had been confronted with. When I told them she had continuous pain due to a heart problem, they looked at each other strangely.

The Thallium test was also conducted and we returned home.

After three days, when we received the test results, we were amazed to see that the results were within the permissible limit and there was no sign of any medical aberration.

I received a telephonic call on my mobile from Guruji at the same time. He hinted that the test results had been favourable and asked whether we were satisfied. We felt extremely embarrassed. Ever since then my wife has been living happily without any problem associated with the heart.

There are numerous incidents of a similar nature, which prove beyond doubt that His Holiness Guruji Maharaj is an incarnation of the Almighty and is vested with supernatural powers. He has tremendous compassion and love for His disciples, who are protected from mental worries and physical ailments of all kinds.

We, indeed, consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to seek the blessings of Respected Guruji in our daily life while being under His sharan.

Bhavesh Pande

JAI GURUJI KI=====We are, because He is
Bhavesh Pande, July 2007
Guru Govind dou khade Kake Lagoon Paye
Govind se Guru bade Jo Govind Dikhaye

In these lines Kabir wonders whose feet he should touch when both God and Guru are standing before him. Then the understanding dawns that without the blessings of the Guru one cannot get to Govind (God). In our case, however, there is no confusion: Guruji is God.

I first heard about Guruji when I used to visit my maternal uncle Col (retd.) S K Joshi. That was around 1996 and the cynical youth in me would not allow me to place my full faith in Guruji. It was the first week of April in 1997 when I had my first darshan of Guruji in Chandigarh. He asked me where I had come from and I told Him that I was Col Joshi's nephew and had come from Jaipur. He placed His palms on my head and said, "Kalyan ho (Blessings)". Two days later, when I returned to Delhi, I had a job offer I was looking forward to. Instant kalyan, you see. And this when I had refused chai prasad and langar in Chandigarh.

Guruji's darshan did not change me much. Some more time was to pass before I realized His omnipotence. Believe me, even this is preordained by Guruji. Meanwhile, Guruji shifted His abode to Delhi. I used to come to Delhi frequently, but for almost two and a half years I did not go for His darshan. By this time, my sister and mother had become fully devoted to Him; however, I was still my old self.

My mother and I had been looking for a match for my sister, but nothing had materialized for almost two years. Then in April 2000 a phone call came from my sister's father-in-law-to-be saying that they wanted the match to be finalized. My sister was in Delhi at that time and showed Guruji the prospective groom's photo. Guruji simply said, "Changa munda hai (he is a good boy)" and our worries disappeared in a second. The marriage was finalized for January 2001 with Guruji's blessings, and my perspective changed as events unfolded.

The marriage was to be held at the grounds of the school where my mother teaches. After discussions with the caterer, we decided where to place the tandoor and where to get all the cooking done. Just three days before marriage, the school director - herself a devotee of Guruji after hearing about Him from my mother - came and told us that Guruji had come in her dream and told her to have the cooking arrangements made at a certain place. Though I did not think much of it, my mother immediately changed the place where the cooking was to be done. The marriage went off very well and even today, after six years, people say they have never tasted a more delicious marriage dinner.

Such incidents only emphasize or rather point to Guruji's omnipresence in the smallest dimension of space and time. However, then I was still myself - cynical and un-baptized in faith.

Fifteen days after my sister's marriage, I changed. I was returning form my office on my bike. I was on the highway, and it was quite late in the night. Suddenly, a street dog collided with my front wheel. I was at such a speed that had even a pebble hit the motorcycle's wheels, I would have been off balance. A roadways bus was breathing down my neck and had I tripped over that would have been the end. But with Guruji's blessings and to the surprise of the few onlookers, I did not loose balance and survived. I felt like saying thank you God and just bowed my head in front of a temple en route to my house. Just then, the characteristic fragrance of Guruji wafted through the air.

This was the first time when all my reason (or cynicism) left me, and when I bowed my head it was to the mental image of Guruji. The transformation from a cynic to a follower was almost instantaneous.
10 minutes to a marriage
Soon I was transferred to Rewari (on the Jaipur-Delhi highway) and came for Guruji's darshan more frequently. Now my mother was worried about getting me married. One day when my mother and I were at my uncle's place, my maternal aunt's cousin was also there. In the evening we went for Guruji's darshan. After langar, when we were all sitting around Guruji, He called me and asked me to press His lotus feet. A few minutes later He asked my maternal aunt's cousin, Jaya, also. And then 10 minutes later He said, "Shadi kar lo (You both get married)." Marriages are made in heaven - I certainly do not doubt it. That's how I and my maternal uncle became brother-in-laws - a fact Guruji is not beyond rubbing in.

I have often heard in satsangs that He knows all your thoughts, but it is much more than that.

All our thoughts are His. How can you think beyond the fountainhead of all thoughts? How can you act beyond the fountainhead of all activity? How can you exist in separation with the soul of the universe? It is simple: we are, because He is.

The fact, of course, might not be known to us or might have been acknowledged or not, but we all exist due to oneness with Him. The few who are privileged to have His darshan or whom He indulges by letting them smell His fragrance or by visibly touching their lives are blessed manifold. I cherish every moment of my life when after smelling His characteristic fragrance I search for a source, only to realize the source is divine.

I feel the miracles attributed to Guruji are 'miracles' only because they are premised to be impossible. I for one have been trying to invest my faith in Guruji by believing that what I am and what I have (both thoughts are blasphemous) are Guruji's will.

Recounting my experiences of Guruji's blessings is a never-ending exercise. Since memory cannot go beyond the time of birth, I would say I have been blessed by Guruji in being born in this world, being born to my parents, having the set of friends I have, blessed in having the upbringing that I have had, blessed in picking up a disease and being cured thereafter, blessing in having met an accident and having recovered thereafter, blessed in having a wonderful sister and brother-in-law, a wonderful wife and cute daughter and truly truly blessed in having the blessings of Guruji. I bow my head to Guruji for allowing me to have His darshan in this lifetime and only wish that He will continue to bless us. I pray that He keeps our entire family at His lotus feet. Jai Guruji.

Blessings

Blessings Always. Everything about the future is uncertain, but one thing is for sure that Guru Ji had already planned all our tomorrows, we just have to trust him today.
Guru Ji knows the past, present and future. It's you who loses hope. Keep hope in Guru Ji in hopeless times, his hope is surer than the sun rising in the morning.

You Can know for certain that Guru Ji will never allow us to suffer beyond our own capabilities to handle it. There is nothing on this earth more certain than hope in pyare Guru Ji. He will never leave us nor will He ever forsake us.

His plans are not intended to harm you but to prosper you. Guru Ji knows your future and is planning it better than anyone else can, ever ourselves. Trust him completely.
He is our father, he is our mother. He is always offering us hope that all things will work out for their best despite what today may seem like.

He delights when we put our hope in Him and His unfailing love. We are finite creatures and can not look beyond today but Guru Ji has planned every step we take.
He guides us and protects us, even in areas where there are dark shadows. We might plan our own course but Guru Ji Himself determines where our steps go.

Be strong, be courageous! When you have Guru Ji, then even if you are consumed with worry because you don't know what comes next, Then you can be sure that he is the only one who will guarantee your future.!!
Chant Om Namah Shivay Shiv ji Sada Sahay
May Blessings of Guru Ji be upon us!!

10 Messages from Guruji::
1. QUIT WORRYING
Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way?
2. PUT IT ON THE LIST
Something needs to be done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not your list. Put it on my to-do-list. Let me be the one to take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to me. And although my to-do-list is long, I am after all...God. I can take care of anything you put into my hands. In fact, if the truth was ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.
3.TRUST ME
Once you have given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on my list. Problem with finances? Put it on my list. Problems with ur emotional roller coaster? For my sake, put it on my list. I want to help u. All u have to do is ask.
4. LEAVE IT ALONE
Don't wake up one morning and say, well, I am feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here. Why do u think u r feeling stronger now? Its simple. U gave me ur burdens and I m taking care of them. I also renew ur strength and cover u in my peace. Don't u know that if I give u these problems back, u will be right back where u started? Leave them with me and forget about them. Just let me do my job.
5. TALK TO ME
I want u to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making u crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because u know I m in control. But there's one thing I pray u never forget. Pls don't forget to talk to me- often! I love u. I want to hear ur voice. I want u to include me in all the things going on in ur life. I want to hear u talk about ur friends and family. Prayer is simply u having a conversation with me. I want to be ur dearest friend.
6.HAVE FAITH
I see a lot of things from up here that u can't see from where u r. Have faith in me that I know what I m doing. Trust me. U wouldn't want the view from my eyes. I will continue to care for u, watch over u, and meet ur needs. U only have to trust me. Although I have a much bigger task than u, it seems as if u have so much trouble just doing ur simple part. How hard can trust be?
7.SHARE
U were taught to share when u were only 2 yrs old. When did u forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who r less fortunate than u. Share ur joy with those who need encouragement. Share ur laughter with those who haven't heard any in such a long time. Share ur tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share ur faith with those who have none.
8.BE PATIENT
I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime u cud have so many diverse experiences. U grew from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can u be so impatient then when it takes me a little longer than u expect to handle something on my to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush
9. BE KIND
Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love u. They may not dress like u, or talk like u, or live the same way u do, but I still love u all. Pls try to get along, for my sake. I created each of u different in some way. It would be too boring, if u were all identical. Pls know I love each one of ur differences.
10.LOVE YOURSELF
As much as I love u, how can u not love urself? U were created by me for one reason only - to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love ur neighbors. But also love urself. It makes my heart ache when I see u so angry with urself when things go wrong. U r very precious to me, don't ever forget.

Grace pushes out doubt, brings in manifold blessings
I came to Guruji in year 2009. But I had a doubt: Guruji had left His physical form, so what was the point in visiting Bade Mandir? There was another predicament. I lived far away; my husband did not believe in pundits and gurus and would not let me come to Him. So how would I reach Guruji? As I bowed in front of Guruji, I asked Him to work a miracle that would allow me to visit Him.

A mere two weeks later, I was able to come to Bade Mandir on the occasion of holy Shivratri—and my husband was with me. He has been coming with me ever since.

Blessed with a new life

In July of 2012, I was walking on the street, when a car suddenly came upon. This was the end, I thought, when a scenario flashed through my mind's eye. I 'saw' the car hitting me, throwing me in the air and my body falling to the ground. Blood spattered the ground. Back on the road and in normal vision, I realized that the car had just brushed past me and I was absolutely fine, without a single scratch. Had it not been for Guruji, I don't know what would have become of me. He had shown me what was about to befall me and blessed me with a new life.

That was neither the first nor the last of my visions. One evening as I was dozing I felt someone write the number 396 on my hand, telling me it was my lucky number. When I woke up, I could not decipher what the number possibly meant.

Two years later, my daughter delivered a boy. I wrote my grandchild's birth time on my hand: 'tareekh 3, 9 bajkar 6 minute'!

Selling disputed property

We had a joint property that had been in dispute for a dozen years. It was a 30-year-old house for which we did not have the original papers. The property was neither in our name nor freehold. But, with Guruji's grace, we not only got the papers, but the house too was transferred in our name. The property became freehold, and could be put up for sale. From the buyer, we got a new house in lieu of the old one and several lakhs as well. All this without spending a single rupee from our pocket. It is all due to Guruji's grace.

I bow to Guruji's lotus feet. He has given me more than I can ever hold.

JAI GURU JI

Satsang

Jai Guruji.
I am sharing this satsang today as per my gurujis wishes.
Guruji has been in my life ever since I met my husband. I recently gave birth to my son Kabir few months back in Canada and came back to India to my in laws house.
My husband's family believes in a different religious sect of Gurus.
One fine day I was told that a great mahatmaji was going to visit our home just to bless my child and meet Dadi maa. This mahatmaji is next in line to be the Guru Maharaj Ji.
I had seen him only once at a religious gathering but his face was really blurry. However the day he came to our home I was shocked to see as to how much he looked like my Guruji. I kept asking my husband during the religious gathering, "don't you think he looks like Guruji?" And he just smiled, looked confused and said no. When mahatmaji was leaving I all of a sudden had a sunken feeling in my heart as if Guruji was leaving my home. I felt sad and I was really confused.
I ran towards the exit door with my son Kabir and he looked right at me and blessed my child for the second time.
For one whole day i kept asking my husband how he couldn't see what I saw. I kept asking him if he saw somewhat resemblance to Guruji in mahatmaji. I kept getting no as an answer but he did tell me that I was lucky if Guruji gave me darshan.

I still couldn't believe it as to how Guruji could come meet me and my child in human form. To prove it, my Guruji came in my dream the next day wearing exact same orange/peach chola that the mahatmaji was wearing, sitting on the same couch smiling.
In my dream I cried and asked Guruji "Guruji woh aap hi the na? Please tell me"
And he gave me the sweetest smirky smile and finally nodded.

Guruji came in my dream himself after giving me darshan in human form to prove that it was actually him who came to meet my child and bless him.

I still cannot believe I experienced it. There's so much more that I want to share but will do so once I get agya from Guruji.

BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS WITH GURUJI

BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS WITH GURUJI (SHARED BY A SANGAT)

1.Once somebody made a mistake and Guruji asked him."what punishment can I give you?" The person replied, "Do not punish me, Guruji , I won't make the mistake again.

After sometime, Guruji asked another person who made a mistake,"And what punishment can I give you ?"

With a bright smile he replied, "Any punishment, Guruji."

At this Guruji turned to the rest of us with a smile and said,"See,he is so confident of my love for him that he is not afraid of any punishment."

Where there is love, there is no fear.Do not be afraid of being punished by God.Trust in the love that He has for you.

2.A devotee felt embarrassed when asked by Guru Ji about his profession.

He said " Guru Ji , I am in the liquor business, but I intend to stop it."
Guru Ji replied, "Oh! you are in the business of intoxicating people,So am I, but I never intend to stop it."

3. Guru Ji asked another devotee about his business.

She replied "Guru Ji, I am interior decorator."
Guru Ji replied "Oh! We are in the same business."

4.In satsang Guru Ji was asked by women devotee , whether Guru Ji will please encourage their husbands to wash utensils and cut vegetables even at home just as they were doing there during the seva

Guru Ji replied: Yes yes definitely. But then it would be nice if you too maintained silence at home just the way you did today in the Satsang (Guruji sense of humor )
Everyone laughed !

Satsang

He loves us so much
My family and I have never met Guruji physically. Guruji decided to leave His body a month before we came to India. Yet, Guruji blessed us in such a way that we feel He is always there for us and touching our lives every minute.

My mom had been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. She would take five-six showers, wash the house every day, wash our shoes and school bags, and fight with everybody. Some doctors declared her insane. Her illness had become so severe that my father was about to put her in a mental hospital. We consulted the top doctors in India and the US for eight years, but no one could heal her. We went to plenty of gurus and spiritual healers. Many said someone had done black magic on my mom. We tried all sorts of pujas, but nothing worked. Then we heard about Guruji from one of our family friends.

Since we had already tried so many gurus, we thought of giving it another try. My mom decided to go to Guruji's sangat when her friend asked her to come. We had heard all sorts of experiences related to Guruji and my family was simply amazed. After my mom's first visit, she has had over four dreams, no darshans, of Guruji. Each has helped my mom recover.

In the first dream my mom had four-five months ago, Guruji was yelling at my mom to stop her nonsensical behaviour. Guruji was quite angry at her and came to her bed and said, "Dassan tenu!" Since that darshan of Guruji, my mom has improved herself and her attitude towards life so much that I cannot express it in words. Just a single darshan of Guruji changed my mom forever. He changed her behaviour in a night while doctors had been unsuccessful for the last eight years. Today, my mom is a big devotee of Guruji. It just brings tears to my eyes that there is someone out there who loves us so much. My mom worships Guruji everyday and has begun to look at life differently. Till date she has not missed a single sangat. She feels as if some power forces her to go to the satsangs every week.

Another interesting thing that happens is that my mom has severe foot problems and cannot sit on the floor for too long whether she is at a temple or a Gurdwara. However, when she goes to Guruji's, her foot problem simply vanishes.

Watching over me every minute

Guruji has helped me a lot in college. I always tended to get nervous whenever I gave an exam. I would forget everything even though I studied a lot. Now, every time I give an exam or do something important, I always carry a picture of Guruji and whatever I do turns out the way I want it to.

I feel as if Guruji is always with us every minute of our lives, giving us the feeling that as long as we are with Guruji, nothing can go wrong. I feel Guruji is watching me every day, every second whether I'm at college, shopping, or home. I feel He is watching me and keeping an eye out for my family. As long as you have faith in Guruji, nothing in this world is impossible. Nothing. I would just like to thank Guruji for everything He has done. The only desire I have left was to see Guruji in real life, but Guruji has convinced me that He is everywhere. And who can be everywhere? Only God.

Positivity : Negativity

Guruji ne kaha ki jab negativity sansar mein badti hai toh wo ikkathi ho ke negative logon ke roop mein janam leti hai..eg like osama bin laden, hitler, aurangzeb etc aur jab postivity badti hai toh achi souls janam leti hain jaise kisi Guru ke roop mein ya mother teresa jaise logon ke roop mein jo vishv mein shaanti aur postivity badate hain aur logon ka kalyan karte hain. Achayee aur burayee dono hi is sansar ka niyam hain. Agar hum bure karm karenge ya negative soch rakhenge to hum burai ko janam denge yani hum burai ka beej bo rahe hain aur ye beej aage ja kar humhe hi nuksaan pohochayega. Example ke liye Guruji ne bataya ki aaj kal jaise bohot sare log tantrik aur black magic ka sahara le rahe hain doosron ka bura karne ke liye unhe ye nahi pata ki agar aap kisi ka bura karwate ho to wo negative takat bura karne wale par wapis ayegi hi ayegi kabhi na kabhi aur wo bhi 10 guna multiply ho kar. Agar aapse anjaane mein koi bura karam ho gaya hai to uske liye aapko maafi mil jayegi aur wo karam Guruji kaat denge lekin agar aap jaan boojh kar kisi ka bura maangte ho ya karte ho to uski maafi aapko koi nahi de sakta Guruji bhi nahi. Isliye Guruji sabko positive hone ke liye kehte hain taaki sabki positivity mil kar ek badi positive shakti ban sake aur uske aage negativity tik na paye.
Negativity ko apne vicharon se bhi aur apne ghar se nikalein. Ghar ki negativity aap is tarah door kar sakte ho..
1)Ghar mein kabhi gandgi nahi rehni chahiye...buri cheezein gandgi par hi jaati hain.
2)Ghar mein khushoo honi chahiye badboo nahi...badboo bhi negativity ka sanket hai. Agarbatti dhoop ya koi bhi fragnance positivity ko attract karti hai.
3)Sajawat ke liye khile hue phool rakh sakte hain phoolon ko dekh kar bohot positivity aati hai. 4)Dead animals etc show piece ke liye bilkul nahi rakhein.
5) Pooja ghar ko bilkul saaf rakein.
6)Haryali rakhein yani ped podhe bhi positivity badate hain. Isliye ghar ke andar indoor plants aur ghar ke bahar outdoor plants rakhein.
7) Ghar mein ek ya ho sake to do baar jyot zaroor jalayien. Jyot jalane se bhi negativity bhaag jaati hai.

Ye sab baatein maine kahin padi ya copy nahi ki hain jo Guruji ne mujhe bataya wo sab likh rahi hoon. Jis ghar mein ye sab nahi hai wahan samajh lein ki negativity jyada hai.

Man ki negativity aap is tarah door kar sakte ho:
1) Kisi ka bura mat bolo aur na hi kisi ka bura socho.
2) Gusse ko jald se jald shaant karo usko apne par haavi nahi hone do..Gussa sari positivity khaa jata hai.
3) Apni bimaari ya problem ka rona kisi ke aage mat ro. Agar rona hai to Guruji ke aage ro. Baar baar problems ko discuss karke aap usko aur badhawa dete ho. Problems ko lightly lo aur ignore karna seekho. Problems ko bada mat banao. Jitni jaldi problems ko bhoolne ki koshish karoge utni jaldi problems solve hoti jayengi. Aur sirf Guruji ko yaad karte raho.
4) Doosron ki problems bhi zyada nahi suno. Aap unki negativity le lete ho. Positivity aur negativity dono multiply hoti hain. Aap aapni khushi bantoge to wo multiply hogi aur agar problems bantoge to wo bhi multiply hongi.

Bhool chook maaf

Sakshi Aunty

Guru ji ki mahima apram par hai DHAN DHAN GURU JI
Satsang shared by sakshi aunty..
Jai Guruji. Main aapke saath apna satsang share kar rhi hun. I was depressed nd worried bcz i was not able to conceive. I had harmones problems nd infections. Nidhi aynty she is guruji's sangat nd our relative. She told me abt Guruji in Feb 2014. I was like i had been to many places for baby. Now i will get nothing from here as well. One day she msgd me there is a satsang in Gurgaon nearby our home. So we all went me my husband nd my inlaws. I felt as if something is there for me. And guruji was calling me there to hear a satsang shared by one uncle that how her daughter beacame pregnant by Guruji's grace. And there i got my answer. We came back home. And I decided to go to bade mandir. In march 2014, we went to Guruji's mandir it was holi on dat day. Nd i was filled with positive vibrations. In march i visited my gynaecologist , she said u cant concieve without medication nd treatment. If this current treatment doest work then u have to thru iui treatment. Me nd my husband we both dint want this iui treatment. I came home nd nd started telepathy with my Guruji swaroop in my mobile . I asked nidhi aunty for guruji's swaroop. In 1st week of April 2014 i got Guruji's swaroop from her. Guruji in yellow chola wow lovely swaroop. I started talking to Guruji's swaroop. One day i was very depressed nd i cried alot in front of Guruji's swaroop. Nd i heard nd internal bvoice in punjabi " main de dya gan". That very night i got a dream, one doc came in my dream nd said y r u going thru dis doc treatment. U r Guruji's sangat , go and have Guruji's chai prasad nd langar prasad. Next morning i thrown medicines in dustbin, my husband was like u have gone mad. Nd i started going to satsangs with my family in Gurgaon only. I went to a satsang where one uncle said that " guruji kehte hai k stones haathon mein nhi pehne chahiye, ae mainu rokde ne , main twadi kismat badal sakta han te ai wich rukawat bande ne. Stone ya pani main baha du ya Guruji k swaroop k aage rakh do. I came home nd was asking guruji k main bhi kya apne stones wali ring utar k rakh dun. Pls guruji answer do. And got a msg in phone that there is a satsang in gurgaon. Hum log satsang pe gye wahi uncle nd he shared same satsang k stone mat pehna karo haathon mein. I came home nd removed all rings nd kept in front of Guruji swaroop nd said ab Guruji aap dekho inka kya karna hai. In second last week of April 2014. I again got a dream where my husband told me that Guruji ne kaha hai k pregnancy test thursday ko karna it was friday when i got dis dream. Nd Guruji called us in satsang on Saturday nd i said Guruji i have surrendered to u. Nd wow again on Sunday guruji called us to bade mandir. Nd sunday night i got a dream, one doc came and gave me a new born baby. Next monday morning i woke up, got msg on my phone from nidhi aunty , dat sakshi Guruji told me he blessed u , tell me abt that bkessjng. I wasnt sure wat wast it. I was getting ready for ofc nd i heard guruji's voice " main de ditta hai". I was very happy mann mejn hi. Nd i told my husband abt this on Tuesday. My husband again was like k without medicines its not possible nd u haven't taken any treatment. So stop all this. I had a fight with my husband that bring pregnancy test, i did test on Thursday early morning nd there we go, it was positive , me and my husband had tears in ours. Nd said thank u Guruji shukrana Guruji. Nd my husband started believing in Guruji. In end of April 2014 iwas pregnant. I had many complications in pregnancy, i was on bedrest for 7 months. I as admited to hospital for delivery on 4th Jan Doc came in night nd asked if u want c section or normal delivery as baby head is not fixed nd heart beat is going down baby ki. I was very scared of normal delivery as i had lot of complications throughout pregnancy. I had a guruji's swaroop with me, so asked Guruji k aap batao kya karna chahiye. Sunday night someone came nd gave a Guruji swaroop to doc nd said k yeh unki wife ko dena , on bed next to me in labour room.Just before that i said Guruji i want c section , pains nhi le sakti ab baby jadi thik thak de do. Nd Guruji came inside the labour. I got answer that Guruji is with me. I called my doc nd said i want c section tomorrow morning which is monday. She said ok she will operate at 8 am. Nd i went in OT with Guruji's swaroop, doc gave me anesthesia at 7:55 so that baby can come out by 8am as doc planned. Anesthesia didn't work doc it is not possible. At 8am doc started operation and my baby came out at 8:04am monday as planned by my Guruji. While my operation was going on in hospital they played shabad gurbani in fortis. Delivery baby girl on 5th jan 2015. She is guruji's baby. Shukrana Guruji. Bahut bahut shukrana Guruji. Her name is sharanya, Guruji's sharan.
Sakshi.

Grace of a Guru

The Grace of a Guru
By Rashme Sehgal
September 2007
A devotee looks back on the exceptional love, acceptance, and protection exuded by Guruji Nirmal, a Delhi based preceptor to some of the most powerful people in the land
Guruji Nirmal had a following that included Sharad Pawar, Amar Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi, a host of other politicians, and members of Delhi's who's who. Yet, he remained one of the most private and little known of spiritual preceptors in the capital. He had no ashram, having built only a small Shiv Mandir where devotees gathered for his birthday, Baisakhi, and Shivratri. Other times, we met at a devotee's house in Mehrauli.
Well-built and burly, with strong features and a shaved head, he was a handsome man, with great personal charm. He was remarkably inclusive and open. He allowed devotees to cluster around him, touch his feet and knees, or even drop a kiss on his head, as one American was fond of doing.
His demise in the end of May this year has left many of us orphaned, but it also compels us to record for posterity his unique nature, and come to terms with his mystique.
Little is known about his early life, save that he was born to a humble farmer's family in Dugri, a village in Melerkotla district in the Punjab. He moved to Delhi almost a decade ago. Devotees talk of miracles he performed while still in school, such as, for instance, filling an empty inkstand with ink by touching it. Despite being an excellent student both in school and in college, he chose to follow the spiritual path.
I often ask myself what is the legacy Guruji left behind, and how did he transform our lives in such a comprehensive and meaningful manner?
The Man
Guruji gave no discourses; he wrote no books; he was not interested in creating an organisation to perpetuate his name. His persona epitomised goodness, kindness, and a benevolent love that permeated the hearts of his devotees. A spiritual powerhouse, his radiant presence in his evening sangats helped transform the lives of those who attended it.
Guruji's sangat met four times a week on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. It culminated in everyone partaking in the bhandara, which Guruji always referred to as prasad. This comprised of rotis, dal, sabzi, and something sweet. For the most time, Guruji spent the entire evening sitting in silence with the Gurbani playing in the background. His devotees – professionals, senior bureaucrats, politicians, the rich and middle class – sat around him, also in silence. Occasionally, he would break the silence by allowing a devotee to come up and sit next to him, and Guruji would then quietly exchange a few words with him. He knew exactly what to say to whom, usually in chaste Punjabi. A puckish sense of humour marked these exchanges.
As a routine, when he met his devotees in the earlier part of the evening, he would be wearing a bright-coloured shirt and black trousers with walking shoes, and would be sitting, legs crossed, on a sideboard kept just outside the kitchen. Dressed in this way, with his head shaved bald, he looked almost like a rock star. But later in the evening when he came to sit on his special chair, he wore a colourful, brightly embroidered choga with special appliquรฉ work done around the neck, sleeves and hem.
The Sangat
He personified the spirit of Punjabiyat. It was reflected in his conversation, the shabads that were played through the evening, and the Patiala shoes which he carried off with such aplomb. Some of his favourite expressions were, "aish karo" (enjoy yourself) "tera kalyan kar dita"(I have blessed you) and "practical hone chaida he" (one should be practical). Once he had said, "tera kalyan kar dita" it meant that whatever the devotee had sought would be fulfilled.
I began attending his sangat from February 2005. The first thing that struck me were the pains he took to make his devotees feel at ease. It was as though he was trying to emphasise that a life of prayer and devotion was not different from our everyday life. Rather, it should be considered an integral part of it, and the message of the sangat must be allowed to permeate every aspect of one's daily routine.
Occasionally, he would elaborate on how the essential message of all religions was devotion to God and mankind. He once asked a close devotee, General C. Kapoor and his wife, at 1.30 am in the morning, what they knew about religion.
"I know nothing about religion; religion has very little role in the army," Gen Kapoor replied.
Guruji kept quiet. A few minutes later he went into a trance, and began quoting extensively from several religious scriptures, including from the Bible, Quran, Granth Sahib, and the Bhagavad Gita.
When he came out of the trance, he asked Kapoor, "Did you understand the meaning of those verses?"
"No, Guruji, I understood nothing at all," Kapoor declared.
Guruji said succintly, "The message of all religions is the same – remember God at all times. If you can help someone, do so, but if you cannot, don't harm him either. Also, don't ever get so involved in the materialistic world that you do not have time to remember God."The Grace
A great healer, he cured a large number of his people. This was one more way of helping them understand the power of prayer. Sometimes, he would allow his devotees who had been cured to speak about how they or their close relatives had emerged from near-death experiences. These were precious exchanges, and helped reinforce just how generous and all-knowing Guruji was. A retired army colonel recounted how Guruji had helped cure his son.
"My son was born deaf, and ever since I could remember, my wife and I were taking him from one ENT specialist to another, but no one could cure him. Finally, one of my friends suggested that we take him to Guruji who advised me to start putting some badam rogan (almond oil) in his ears, which we did for many months. One morning, his ear was covered with a fungal infection. I spoke to Guruji and told him what had happened. He advised me to take him to an ENT specialist, which we did. The minute the doctor began removing the fungal growth, the boy felt giddy, fainted, and fell to the ground. The same thing happened the next morning. He said he fainted because he found the sound of his ear being cleaned very loud. When he returned home, he heard the words of his mother talking to him. These were the first words he had heard in the 16 years of his life."
At another time, a Patiala-based college lecturer recounted how some relatives had tried to poison her in order to inherit her property. "The poison was so strong that my skin turned black, and I became bloated and obese. Since I was not getting better, a friend of mine suggested I visit Guruji. When I arrived at his darbar, I sat in one corner. Guruji did not say anything to me except that I must attend the sangat for one month at a stretch, and not leave before eating the langar. I did as he told me, and strangely enough, one month later, I began to feel better. I shed the extra weight I had put on, but my skin remained dark."
One evening, out of the blue, Guruji asked her what cream she was using in order to become fair.
"Bring the bottle of cream you are using when you visit here the next time," Guruji told her.
She did as she was told. Guruji then asked her to apply the same cream on his feet. To her delight, she found herself returning to her original complexion. "A guru gives you his strength, he gives you his love, and most important, he gives you his protection," she told the sangat.
The Protection
The cures Guruji offered were simple, almost like homespun remedies. Cover a wound with paan ka patta, buy channa and gur and offer it at a Hanuman temple, wear an OM pendant that was blessed by him. However simple these remedies may appear, the fact that he had blessed the devotee and had prescribed them seemed to make all the difference, because patients who had tried every other treatment and failed, would invariably get cured by him.
"Pray, and give time to God to effect a cure," he would sometimes tell his devotees. Healing and curing must be preceded by a change of attitude. This attitudinal change comes
about when we understand that there is a moral world that rules this planet, and that this moral order is interwoven with the laws of nature. Nothing that happens on this earth happens in a random manner.
Guruji would listen to these anecdotes with a smile on his face. It was not as though he was taking any personal credit for these experiences. He always said that whatever happened did so because of the grace of God.
A young girl spoke about how she had developed a very painful kind of skin cancer, and the doctors had given her only a few days to live.
Again, she was told to visit Guruji consecutively for an entire month, and to partake in the langar which he considered to be prasad. She did so, and her body began to heal. On getting cured, she grew so confident of her relationship with the Guru that she stopped lighting the jyot in her temple. One day, she tried lighting the jyot. Despite several attempts, it did not light. Frustrated, she threw the matchstick down, and began to cry.
"Guruji has abandoned me," she cried.
When she came out of her bath, she found that the jyot had lit of its own accord. "It was then that I realised that the Guru never forsakes you; though we may forsake him," she affirms.
At a personal level, I started attending Guruji's sangat a little before my husband, Anil, was found suffering from cancer. Guruji was visiting the house of photographer Rahgu Rai and his wife, Meeta Rai. When I came to seek Guruji's blessings, he indicated to me that I should start attending the sangat. He obviously knew that I was going to go through a difficult time and he would help me through this period.
His words proved prophetic because this turned out to be the most turbulent time in my life. Not once did Guruji tell me that Anil would be cured though I knew he had cured several cancer patients. He just extended his love, and made sure that my husband did not have to suffer physically. Rather, it was a period when the whole family came together to help him through this difficult time.
The Guru's Gift
When I would visit Guruji during this crisis period, I would keep asking myself the question, "Who is a guru and why does he have so much importance in our life?"
The answers to this question came slowly to me. It dawned on me then that a guru is someone who helps u
